1:20AM

Angie hears gunshots outside her window and grabs the phone to call the police.

Then remembers that it's late morning of July 4th on the westside of Columbus and puts the phone down. The "gunshots" are probably the last remnants of someone's fireworks.

Comet, my dog heard the same thing here tonight. She started with her big loud mean bark like " Who the hell is shooting a gun in my neighborhood". She was ready to kick some butt!!
I finally led her to the TV and made her watch the fireworks and said, Comet...remember this from a few years ago when we were watching the fireworks? Oh look, Comet...oooh....wow....oooh. She then was happy to sit and watch TV with a great big smile on her face. Yes, my great big Golden Retriver smiles. Doesn't she Ang.
Uhhuh..you've got a smile on your face thinkin about her.

At least you had fireworks. Charleston's were rained out. A guy was struck with lightning (although, thankfully, not directly. He was released from the hospital the next day.)

Lots of fun in the... er... rain here in Charleston! Bleh.

Oh it rained. Red, White and Boom got rained on, but it cleared up at the last minute so they went off without a hitch. Well, the fireworks did. Where we were was a different story. We went to a park in town filled with rednecks - people who have no respect for my FAVORITE day of the year. They needed the muzzle that the dog across the way had on its mouth. If not for the fantastic company I had (Craig, the Brandi/ys, and Tammy), Red, White and Boom, would have been a bust. Next year, we MUST be downtown. The elements that make Boom work for me include the riverfront, and people who respect the fireworks enough to stand in awe of them. THOSE people - are downtown.

The Whetstone fireworks that we go to each year with Bob's family - we drove out there and sat in the car in a downpour for about an hour and a half waiting for it to STOP raining, suspecting that they would cancel them at any moment. Finally we decided to leave, then later learned they in fact went on. No matter, Brandi and I stayed up at my apartment talking for a while and gnoshing on poptarts. (Well, the poptarts weren't Brandi as much as they were me).

BUT. The Grove City fireworks never disappoint, and neither did the Meeker clan. Mad props to both on Saturday night.

Lots of you know this, but the Fourth of July is my fav. holiday; it's basically the summer equivalent to Thanksgiving. Good friends, family, good food, a reason to party and say thanks. It's the only day of the year where I could possibly experience a game of baseball, a picnic or cookout, fireworks near the water, and live orchestral music all on the same day.

I remember going to Cloud Park in Huber Heights, to the carnival, and then to the fireworks. It was the same park where I played most of my softball games for years (except for All-Stars and traveling games); the same park where we'd have our cheerleading/football team picnics...It was sort of all that was fun about summer, in the same place (except it's not where the pool was)!

Glad to hear the rained passed long enough for the fireworks. I'm jealous. Poor Hannah... we kept telling her about them and she never got to see them.

I hope/think there will be fireworks at Regatta. We don't usually go, but we'll make an effort for her to see fireworks during this summer!

I never thought of the 4th of Uly being the summer equivalent to Thanksgiving... but you're so right! Thanks for giving me another perspective and a new appreciation for this holiday.
